Hi my name is Elizabeth. My husband Dave and I are almost done with our home study. We are wanting to participate in the Legal Risk Program. Before coming to Diakon we were in the process of trying to privately adopt a six year old girl. When that didn't work out, we still wanted to adopt. Our church works with Lutheran Family Services for refugee resettlement and a social worker we know also recommended Diakon to us.

My husband and I have no biological children. In the course of our marriage we have often been stand in parents. We have been houseparents for teenage boys who were adjudicated, we have been foster parents for babies, we have been a temporary home for a woman with intellectual disabilities who became homeless and most recently we have been host parents to a 17 year old Korean High School Student. We both work in the social service field and have 2 cats and 2 dogs.

We are hoping to meet with other families on this forum who are also going through the same process as we are. We are familiar with the process of loving and letting go. Through the experiences that we have had so far we have learned that it is a great help to have other people that we can talk with that are traveling the same path. I look forward to meeting new friends here and learning from everyone else here!
