Correspondence Procedures for Pregnancy Services
Many families who have adopted through the Pregnancy Services Program have agreed to exchange letters and/or photos with their child’s birthparents. Generally, this agreement involves the exchange of correspondence on a yearly basis, around the time of the child’s birthday. If you are one of these families, you can mail your correspondence directly to Jennifer Roe or Kathy Roach at Diakon Pregnancy Services at the Topton office. Before the correspondence is forwarded, the birthparents are contacted to make sure that they still want to receive the information. From time to time, birthparents call Jennifer or Kathy directly to request correspondence from the adoptive families. In these circumstances, Jennifer or Kathy then contact the adoptive families to request the correspondence. For that reason, Diakon needs to have an up-to-date phone number and address for you.
When you prepare the letters and photos for birthparents, please do not include any identifying information in the letter. Also, many of the birthparents only know the child by their birth name, so please remember to use that name in the correspondence if that is the case. Thank you.
